Backstage Beauty at Hervé Léger

NARS Cosmetics was backstage creating the makeup look for Hervé Léger’s fall/winter 2009 show.

lead makeup artist Diane Kendal for NARS Cosmetics created a strong brow and dewy skin inspired by photographs from Helmut Newton, using the concept of a brave warrior-- strong and fierce. "the collection is very hard and sculpted so we wanted to keep the skin neutral and show strength through the eyebrows," said Diane.

to create this look, it was important to communicate strength without being too bold. Diane said, "we created very fresh, dewy skin by using the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (available this fall). it really allowed the skin's natural highlights to shine through."

recreate the look using products from NARS**:

on the face: use NARSskin Hydrating Moisture Cream to moisturize; apply NARS Concealer as needed, to cover any imperfections; use a minimal amount of NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (new for fall 2009) to even skin tone.

on the eyes: brush brows to define natural shape; with NARS Single Eyeshadow in Bali, fill in brows; brush again for even, natural look; apply gentle dusting of NARS Single Eyeshadow in Sophia to entire lid, blending up towards brows for natural shading; curl lashes with NARS Eyelash Curler

on the lips: apply NARS Rain Lip Therapy Treatment to entire lip; use NARS Concealer over Rain to mute color.

when it came to the hair, the look was anything but dull or boring, thanks to lead hair stylist Dennis Lanni for Bumble & bumble. "the look is very sleek and polished in front, but in back the ponytail is full of incredible volume. it's almost like it is exploding," he explains.

to create this amazing body, Dennis pulled the hair back then secured in a ponytail. he then rolled small sections of the ponytail up into figure 8 shapes, securing them with a small elastic. once the hair was secure, he crimped each one by squeezing it with a flat iron. once cool, he undid the figure 8's, lightly brushed out and then teased all over for full volume. wow!
