beauty girl bookshelf: 'The Age of Miracles' by Karen Thompson Walker

happy wednesday, beauties! how has your week been so far? mine has been pleasant, despite the extreme heat, so i have no complaints. among other things, i've been reading a great book, started another, and am still thinking about the one i finished this past saturday ~ The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker.

i learned about this back in june, and the premise caught my attention right away: 11-year-old Julia and her parents {along with the rest of the world} awake one morning to discover that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. there's no reason or explanation for it. as time moves on, minute by minute, hour by hour, the days and nights grow longer and longer...

everything is affected {gravity, climate, the animals, and eventually people}; normal life is thrown into disarray. through Julia's perspective we see how "the slowing" begins to take its toll in emotional, social and psychological ways.

needless to say, when the opportunity to borrow this through my local library came up, i did so without hesitation.

The Age of Miracles is a beautifully written, thought-provoking and beyond unique coming-of-age story that i more than enjoyed reading. i can't recommend it highly enough, so read it before the movie gets made {yep, it's already in the works}.

visit the official Age of Miracles website to learn more about the book and its fabulous author, Karen Thompson Walker.
