Michelle Obama at the Inauguration Ball

wearing a beautiful white chiffon dress with Swarovski crystals and fabric petals designed by Jason Wu, Michelle Obama attended the inauguration ball tuesday night.

Wu, like Isabel Toledo, who designed the first lady's day dress and coat, didn't know that his dress had been chosen by the first lady until he saw her wearing it. "i'm a part of history. words can't describe how i felt. i was awestruck. i think Michelle is statuesque. she's beautiful. i wanted to design a gown that would highlight her best features. i see her as a powerful, energetic woman. for me, this is pretty surreal."

the designer describes the dress as "soft and feminine, but powerful; i wanted to convey all that in a dress." Wu told The Associated Press that he wanted the ivory, one-shouldered gown to "look like a sign of hope."

Michelle accessorized her gown with amazing earrings, silver bangles and a knockout ring (pictured above).

Michelle Obama's Inauguration Makeup

while i choose not to get political here on BGM, i do love beauty and makeup and know that many of youwant to know what makeup Mrs. Obama will be wearing tomorrow for inauguration day. so, i have the scoop!

Michelle Obama's makeup artist, Ingrid Grimes-Myles said she would choose "chic neutrals" for the daytime inauguration ceremony, which includes the following:

ModelCo Colourbox Eye Shadow in Seychelles
Stendhal Mascara in Noir Black
POP Beauty Blush Cake in Natural in Nudes (pictured)
It Cosmetics Lip Plumping Pencil in Attract and Energy

for the evening's inaugural ball, Grimes-Myles hinted that Michelle's makeup will be in the category of "major glam, with deep, smoky plum-lined lids."

that sounds good to me! i know plums and purples look fab on anyone. :)

for the evening, Michelle's makeup wardrobe will include:

Mineral Essence Eye Shadow in Merlot (pictured)
Bloom Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black
Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Berry
Paula Dorf Lip Color Sheer Tint in Innocence

i also found out what Ingrid Grimes-Myles gives as her tips for staying fresh if you plan on being out on inauguration day in DC:

* the night before, exfoliate your lips with a bit of sugar or a nubby washcloth. layer on hydrating cream and a petroleum- or oil-based product to lock in moisture.

* start with really healthy skin maintained by good skin care. moisturize, drink water, and use sunscreen (even though it’s winter).

* cover any issues with a substantial, cream-based foundation topped with powder. it’s going to be very cold in D.C., and people tear up when it’s chilly, so use a product that won’t crack.

* women think that their eyes are most important, but the brow is the workhorse of the face. if you have a busy day, fill in the brow a little bit. as events become more formal, accent the eyes with liner and lashes.

so that's it! tomorrow is the big reveal of everything Michelle will wear, from makeup to fashion-- including the inaugural gown-- and i know i'm just as curious as the next fashionista to find out which designer's creation she will wear on her first evening of being the first lady.

stay tuned...
