beauty news: two new faces join the CoverGirl family!

CoverGirl recently signed two new, gorgeous, and very talented performers to their beauty roster...

i'm beyond thrilled!



the fabulous ladies are P!nk and Janelle Monae!

P!nk, recently wrapped her first print advertising campaign with the brand, debuting in your favorite fall mags, and is fresh off the heels of putting the finished touches on her new album, The Truth About Love. exemplifying what it means to be a true CoverGirl she's got her own individuality and never settles for conforming to a single beauty standard.

"i have a lot to celebrate. i called my new album The Truth About Love, and the truth is that i have my beautiful family and baby girl, my new music, and now my partnership with CoverGirl to love,” said P!nk. “joining a group of women who have always inspired me ~ to laugh out loud, let my guard down, or play around with my beauty look ~ is such an honor."

singer/songwriter, Janelle Monae, is already known for her individual style {including a black-tie wardrobe and striking hairstyle known as a "Monae"}, and was called a "different kind of diva" by Vogue {her debut CoverGirl advertisement can be now be seen in the september 2012 issue}. Monae says she's on a unique mission to encourage women to use all their artistic powers to play, change, and transform.

"i believe it's time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them," said Monae. "one of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique. becoming a CoverGirl is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out."

the current roster of CoverGirls include such icons as Sofia Vergara, Queen Latifah, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Taylor Swift and Team USA athletes Jennifer Kessy and Marlen Esparza.

nail color of the week: Color Club She's So Glam

pink is my favorite color, as many of you know, and this pink, Color Club She's So Glam, is no exception. i did find the application of this opaque creme to be a bit difficult, as the formula didn't apply as easily as i typically like (on the thick side and a bit streaky, if you know what i mean), but i managed to do an ok application with just two coats.

other than that, i think this is a fun pink to end the summer with, don't you?

nail color of the week: Finger Paints My Art Belongs to You

pink is my absolute can't-live-without color. seeing it puts me in a good mood, even if i'm already in one. i just love it! this shade by Finger Paints, called My Art Belongs to You, is new from their summer collection. i love that it's not a typical bubblegum pink-- it has a hint of shimmer to it and it's bright and cheery without stepping into neon territory.

this is my first experience with Finger Paints, and i have to say, i'm really liking the way the formula applies. it wears very well and i love the bottle it comes in, too-- so cute! exclusive to Sally Beauty Supply, i'll definitely be picking up more colors from this brand to try in the future.

nail color of the week: Sonia Kashuk Ooh La La

to be honest, Sonia Kashuk's fabulous color called Ooh La La was what i was wearing on my nails last week, but i completely forgot to post it. this gorgeous fuchsia shade is deep yet still bright at the same time. i took different picks so you could see how it looks at different angles and light (flash, no flash and natural light to be specific).

the formula is great and very easy to apply. for the four days i wore it, i had no chips, only wear at the tips from typing. i love Ooh La La-- so happy i bought this for my collection. :)

China Glaze Wizard of Ooh Ahz Returns + Swatches

China Glaze re-released their beloved Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection just before the holidays and with the whirlwind that comes with that time of year (not to mention my family and i had just moved), i'm finally posting my swatches (better late than never, right?).

if you are a fan of sparkles and shimmer in your polish, these are sure to excite you. if you don't already own these, take a look at this collection...





The Ten Man is a white-silver and one of my faves. it looks good with anything.





Cowardly Lyin' is a really pretty gold. sadly, my cool complexion doesn't look as good in this shade.





CCCourage is my absolute favorite of the bunch. i am a huge purple polish fan, and this shimmery beauty doesn't disappoint.




Dorothy Who? is a jelly polish with blue and silver shimmer. i love this one--it's amazing!




Good Witch? is a soft pink and, as you can see, very pretty. my daughter loves this one (of course).





Ruby Pumps is the best-seller of the group, loved and adored by nail polish fans everywhere, with good reason-- it's gorgeous! this pic does it no justice. i love the shimmer in this red and even i (not much of a red polish wearer) like to wear this one.


each shade required three coats for the sake of the pics. some shades (like The Ten Man and Dorothy Who? and Cowardly Lyin') appeared more sheer with only two coats. in any case, these are all very gorgeous polishes-- what do you think??

nail color of the week: OPI DS Extravagance

from the fabulous Designer Series, OPI's DS Extravagance was my choice of nail color to wear this week. it really helped cheer me up in this gloomy weather. this pretty and sparkly magenta would put any beauty girl in a better mood, don't you think?

nail color of the week: OPI Feelin' Hot Hot Hot

after seeing an amazing pink nail color being worn so fabulously by my blogger gal pal Marta, i immediately had to find out what color it was. turns out OPI's Feelin' Hot Hot Hot was making her tips look so fun and oh-so summery.

as you can see the pics (indoors, natural light on left, indoors w/flash, on right), this pink isn't an over-powering inyourface neon shade, but rather a perfect flamingo-esque pink that looks great on toes, too!

nail color of the week: MAC Varicose Violet

MAC's Varicose Violet was featured in the Dame Edna for MAC collection, and i adore it!

this shade of pearlescent pinkish-purple goes on so smooth and dries in a reasonable amount of time. the color is sheer upon application, but easily builds to the color in the bottle in about three coats.
