on the red carpet: Primetime Emmys 2012

if you tuned in to this year's primetime Emmys ceremony this past weekend, you were witness to some gorgeous gowns and fabulous hair and makeup looks. i could go on and on about my favorites, but i i'd rather just share the images.

ok, and maybe some key beauty details...

best lead actress in a drama winner Claire Danes glowed with her smoky eye look, created using products by Laura Mercier {Eye Pencil in Extreme Black, Creme Eye Colour in Burnished Copper, Creme Cheek Colour in Oleander and Smooth Lip Colour in Angelic, just to name a few}, and shiny waves, created using Frizz-Ease products by John Frieda.

Kat Dennings' romantic look was stunning thanks to loose curls, a bold lip and her gorgeously glam scarlet J.Mendel gown.

perfect, sultry waves, crimson lips {Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon} and flawless skin gave Mad Men star Christina Hendricks {wearing a custom Christian Siriano gown} her always fabulous  look.

with face-framing fringe and a low chignon, Zooey Deschanel was true to her personal vintage style {dress by Reem Acra}; her makeup look was glowing and soft {Hourglass Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush, topped with Dior Rosy Glow in 001 petal was used on her cheeks}. a gorgeous striking pout ~ courtesy of Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Ballet ~ finished this red carpet look.

Kerry Washington was simply stunning; from her classic updo, smooth skin {Diorskin Nude Foundation #060} and lush lashes {some individual lashes were added then topped with black Diorshow Mascara}...and her sparkly Vivienne Westwood gown? love!

a deep side part, a loose braid and soft waves, paired with winged eyeliner and a pretty pink pout, gave Kate Mara a soft-meets-edgy look; this was a gorgeous compliment to the fresh-off-the-spring-2013-runway gown by Badgley Mischka.

shimmery eyes, tousled curls and a refreshingly cool Balenciaga slip dress...i loved Kristen Wiig and her simple yet polished look.

it was all about the eyes for Ginnifer Goodwin {wearing a beautiful orange Monique Lhuillier brocade dress}  thanks to a classic, thick line on the top lids and lush, full lashes created using mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Entourage winged at the outer corner of eyes and mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black.

essie dresses nails on the 2011 Primetime Emmys red carpet...

if you're like me, you find that award shows are one of the best places to get style inspiration. these days, it's not only for hair and makeup, but nails, too! since i have a special place in my heart for lacquers, i'm always overjoyed to discover what shades are featured in magazines {many mags are now listing what brand and shades the models wear in their fashion and beauty spreads}, on tv, and red carpet events.

at this past weekend's Primetime Emmy awards, some very fabulous essie nail polish shades were seen dressing the nails of tv's leading ladies...

Connie Britton {Friday Night Lights} wore Luxedo, a gorgeous dark mulberry, complementing her stunning scarlet gown.

Laura Linney {The Big C} was spotted wearing Hi Maintenance, a light-pink neutral hue on both hands and feet.

Mireille Enos {The Killing} chose to keep it neutral with Brooch the Subject from the winter 2011 collection.

Maria Bello {Prime Suspect} also went neutral on her fingers and toes with another light-pink classic, Limo-Scene

Emmys 2008: Get Kristin Chenoweth's Look

Jill Cady, who created the look for Kristin Chenoweth, found inspiration from the actress's dress and beautiful eyes: "her dress is elegant and sexy; it called for sexy strong eyes to compliment the look."

i was able to ask her a few questions in regard to the look, and she gave me a brief step-by-step on how she created this look:

"i started by prepping the skin to make sure it was moist and nourished so the products would glide on!" (try, NARS Makeup Primer)

"for the eyes, i primed them first and then blended lighter shades first and ended by doing the lashes and liner (try NARS duo eyeshadow in Paris, NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon)".

"i then applied the highlighter and base (try NARS Balnacing Foundation). i used cream blush to add color and contour the cheeks (try NARS Multiple Stick in Orgasm). i then set the skin with loose powder and ended by completing the lips-- i used NARS Lip Lacquer in Chelsea Girls to create the luscious, sexy lip-- and body makeup.

thank you Jill for sharing this sexy, classic and elegant makeup look!

look of the day: Sandra Oh

Sandra Oh, pictured here at the 2008 Emmy Awards, wore a lace-y floor length gown that, in my opinion, was one of the best of the night.

the Grey's star looked amazing in her dress, didn't she? it was designed by Oscar De La Renta, one of my all-time faves...

fyi, if i ever have an important red carpet to walk on, he will be the man i beg to design my gown!

where's hubby when you need him?

last night's oscars were just enough to put me to sleep, but so many moments happened before, during and after that almost made up for it ( i use the term almost very loosely). Ryan Seacrest was doing one of his 5 million jobs last night so well, but, unfortunately, his interview with Jennifer Garner and Laura Linney became very awkward thanks to Gary Busey. maybe he fell of the wagon, and poor (but looking quite beautiful) Jennifer was left feeling a little nervous...where's Ben?!!!
