skincare review: 4 serums i'm loving right now...

when it comes to skincare, serums are, in my opinion, a must in my routine. the highly concentrated gems contain nutrients and technologically advanced ingredients formulated to help prevent or correct skin damage. depending on your needs and budget, there are a plethora of options to choose from.

i've been using the following products individually {though there has been some overlap with a couple at a time} over the last several months, and i'm so excited to share with you now how {and why} i love each one. they all address wrinkles and hydration, but are unique and have different purposes. i've noticed fab results from them all...

Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum by RoC is the first on my list. over the last couple of years i've been a brand ambassador and have had the opportunity to work with the company, discovering what makes them and their products so good. while the name suggests it would be a product i wouldn't reach for {i have no severe, deep wrinkles}, the ingredients are fabulous for prevention and correction of fine lines and evening out skin tone. it has a silky, lightweight texture {which was fabulous as i used it over the summer} and it gave my skin a more even-toned, smooth, glowy look. i expected a bit of a reaction from this because the packaging said i might, but also since it contains Retinol {a vitamin a derivative that makes skin more sensitive to sun exposure}, but thankfully, i had none {i do wear sunscreen everyday}. rocskincare.com

Skin & Co Umbria Truffle Hydro-Toning Face Serum is part of an apothecary range of goodies; simple and effective, this serum is certainly worth trying if you are unfamiliar. i love the way it glides onto my skin and absorbs beautifully. it's uber hydrating and creates a smooth finish that works well with other moisturizers and under foundation. i use it twice day and my skin had no negative reaction to it. skinandcoroma.com

Beverly Hills MD sent me their Venox anti-aging serum and it was love at first use. no, that doesn't mean i saw instant results, but that i really loved the way it made my skin feel. with more use, i really began to appreciate the hydration and antioxidants. i used the creamy formula twice a day and it really helped reduce the finer lines i have around my eyes and on my forehead {wrinkles be gone!}. beverlyhils-md.com

and finally i'd like for you to meet Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C BB Serum ~ it's the least expensive on this list, but it certainly doesn't make it less of a powerful product. it smells of fresh oranges and, like the other serums on my list, has improved the look of my skin with its highly concentrated formula. i've been applying it before my sunscreen/moisturizer, and thanks to the light-reflecting pigments, my skin is always left looking beautifully radiant. ulta.com

vitamins and antioxidants as well as advanced ingredients created by man, all of these serums deserve a space in your skincare arsenal. visit the website links for more info. let me know if you've used any of these gems or tell me about what you've been using these days!

beauty review: Juara Skincare faves

Juara recently sent me a few of their products and, naturally, i wanted to share some of my thoughts about them with you. the fabulous Kerri Russell had some of the products used on her skin to prep it for a red carpet event, and like many people, i loved the results ~ what a surprise when the products showed up on my doorstep!

Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner
this toner-serum fusion is a fabulous product ~ it really makes my skin look and feel so beautiful. i first tried this toner in 2009, and in my review i said it was "the most moisturizing toner i have ever used." fast-forward 5 years, i still think it's still a fabulous gem. to quote myself: "this toner is unique in that it provides hydration and moisture without oil, while also soothing and leaving my skin feeling amazingly soft! if your skin needs hydration, this is perfect. if you are looking for a toner with calming benefits, this one will work for you too." it's definitely a gorgeously beneficial step in my skincare routine.

an oil-free gel-cream, the Sweet Black Tea & Ginger Mattefying Moisturizer combines radiance-boosting, anti-aging benefits thanks to antioxidant-rich sweet black tea. this beauty is infused with vitamin B, hydrating hyaluronic acid as well as purifying ginger and cinnamon to nourish and keep skin in gorgeous condition. i love how the formula glides on smoothly, absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling moisturized with a soft, matte finish.

Juara Sweet Black Tea Eye Crème is quite luxurious, i must say. the silky texture feels amazing to apply morning and night. it's kept the area around my eyes so hydrated. the combination of  kombucha {fermented black tea}, avocado butter, rice bran oil and candlenut oil all work together to nourish, refresh, treat and keep my eyes looking youthful.

are you a fan of Juara products? what are your faves? visit juaraskincare.com for more info and to find a retailer near you.

6 treatments to keep your skin blemish-free

according to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 85% of all people have acne at some point in their lives. this most common skin disorder affects over 40 million americans! june is Acne Awareness Month, and while it's almost over, i still thought i'd share with you this list of treatments that, according to those who have used them, are highly effective {and worth trying} for getting and keeping your skin clear. each product contains innovative ingredients to reduce oil production, unclog pores and kill acne causing bacteria in order to banish breakouts.

take a look...

combining 3% salicylic acid with 2% glycol acid to exfoliate dead skin cells, unclog pores and help the ingredients absorb deeper into the skin, this serum works by reducing oil production, targeting hyperpigmentation {those pesky dark marks leftover from previous flare ups} and can also be used as a spot treatment.

a two-in-one problem solver created to help eliminate breakouts and minimize pore size. salicylic acid acts as an anti-inflammatory, exfoliating dead skin cells to help reduce pore size and oil build up. infused with a patented SmartPeptide, this skin calming treatment has been shown to help bind cellular toxins and kill acne-causing bacteria.

a powerful combination of acids are featured in this serum ~ glycolic, salicylic and azelaic ~ to address a variety of skin concerns, including acne. it also promises to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, rosacea, acne scarring, large follicles and porous skin texture so that, over time, skin will appear dramatically softer, smoother, more luminous and hydrated.

the high concentration of oxygen, a natural antiseptic, promises to penetrates deep into the skin to neutralize subcutaneous bacteria, eliminate accumulated toxins and clear surface acne. formulated to be lightweight, this cream helps to enhance nutrient absorption, optimize skin functions and limit the formation of excess sebum, clogged pores and blemishes.

Hydra Medic Face Wash is a soap-free formula that deep cleanses without causing dryness. salicylic acid neutralizes bacteria while gently exfoliating the skin; an antioxidant tea blend soothes inflamed skin, leaving it soft and smooth. active ingredients include: Porprhyridium Micro-alga, Green Tea Extract, Rooibos Tea Extract, Salicylic Acid, Ylang Ylang Oil {Cananga Odorata Flower Oil}, Basil and Lavender Oil

Miracle Skin Transformer Acne Control
with a skin-perfecting, tinted, skin-enhancing formula {hello, multi-tasker!}, the finished look you can expect to see while wearing Miracle is smooth, matte and flawless. this long-wearin beauty also helps acne-prone skin by fighting off any future breakouts while softening the look of existing blemishes, pores, scaring and uneven tone.

do you suffer with unwanted blemishes? have you tried any of these products? let me know in the comments!

summer beauty: defy sun-damaged skin

the summer season is just around the corner, beauties! along with longer, brighter days also comes what we all dread ~ sun damage! so if you're looking forward to getting out and soaking up the sun, it's that much more important to make sure that you're taking care of your skin before you do any unintended harm...

i'm sure you're well aware that the more time you spend in the sun the more likely you're going to end up with damage; and this won't always show up right away {not everyone burns, after all}, but when it does, it reveals itself in the form of uneven skin tone, spots, hyperpigmentation and unwanted blemishes. thankfully, there are fabulous products to repair the damage, bring back the radiance and give skin a more even tone. here are some suggestions that can be a great help...

MD Complete Dark Spot Remover ~ {pictured, at top} this beauty serum is formulated to help fade unwanted dark spots, freckles and sun damage; evens and brightens overall skin tone giving skin a more youthful and healthy-looking complexion. mdcompleteskincare.com

Exuviance OptiLight Tone Corrector ~ a potent targeted skin tone corrector that aids in diminishing the look of dark spots; active ingredients include botanicals to treat and prevent uneven tone. NeoGlucosamine® gently exfoliates to break up pigment clusters, while retinol and vitamin C help reduce the intensity of existing spots. exuviance.com

Lumixyl Brightening System ~  this revolutionary multi-faceted approach promises to effectively treat hyperpigmentation without irritation or other side effects associated with prescription hydroquinone or retinoids; the 8 week program includes the Active-Prep Cleanser, Topical Brightening Creme, GlycoPeel 20 Rapid Exfoliating Lotion, and MoistureLock Sunscreen spf 30, which work synergistically to target existing melasma and to prevent its recurrence. lovelyskin.com

elure Advanced Brightening Lotion ~ uses mushroom-derived Melanozyme™ which is touted to safely and effectively brighten, soften, and retexturize skin. Melanozyme™ breaks down existing discoloration, without the irritation and side effects of harsh prescription drugs, working to dissolve existing pigment in as little as 4 weeks. elureskin.com

remember, while these are more than likely to give you what you're looking for, prevention is most important, so wear sunscreen daily!

beauty review: MAC Lightful w/Marine-Bright complex

~ it's a new year, so you may have resolved to start a new skincare routine. and even if that's not the case, we all want skin that's soft to touch and beautiful to look at. to make it reality, good skincare products are essential! to help you navigate through the plethora of products, i've been testing out many for the past few months and will be sharing my thoughts and opinions throughout the month of january. i hope you'll find it useful! ~

nourish, hydrate and brighten the skin with the exclusive asia-inspired formula that defies dull skin while fortifying against key environmental aggressors. enhanced with marine-bright formula, featuring three potent seaweeds harvested from the world's oceans and optimized with vitamin C. this unprecedented skin-brightening complex, made possible through our exclusive technology, improves clarity, evens pigmentation and creates perfectly luminous skin instantly and over time.

this is the description regarding the MAC Lightful range of skincare products; i'm here to say i'm beyond happy with what i have been using {3 of 4 products}: Softening Lotion, Essence and Moisture Creme {there is also a Cleanser, but i have yet to try it out for myself}. each of these beauties are formulated to give skin a healthy glow and feed skin beneficial ingredients to make your skin look its best.

like millions of people, i've always been a fan of MAC; i'm also especially fond of their skincare products, which i think are so underrated and don't get near the amount of hype they deserve {just saying…}. sure, i love my studio fix plus powder, lipglass, and don't even get me started over the assortment of amazing eyeshadows, but MAC's skincare is quite effective. needless to say, Lightful has my heart.

let's take a few moments to take a closer look at the products i've been using, shall we?

 Lightful Softening Lotion
this gorgeous, antioxidant-rich lotion {it's a liquid, though; think toner} is perfect for any skin type, containing a solid mix of antioxidants, repairing ingredients, and soothing agents {created to calm redness and reinforce a healthy barrier function for the skin}. i used this twice daily for three weeks when i began seeing results: smoother and more radiant skin.

Lightful Essence
a vitamin C serum, highly infused with antioxidants and other fabulous ingredients helps to brighten skin and improve the look of discoloration and uneven skin tone.  the smooth-textured serum comes in a pump bottle and applies fabulously. i used this mainly at night, but did use it sometimes in the morning. overall, i would definitely recommend you try this out for yourself, if you haven't yet.

Lightful Moisture Creme
my favorite! it's uber-lightweight but oh-so hydrating; the smooth texture absorbs quickly and is simply fabulous. i don't know how it was done, but this moisturizer is packed with antioxidants, and beneficial plant extracts. my only gripe: it needs to be in a pump rather than a jar.

the MAC Lightful collection is certainly worth a look {oh, and did i mention the sparkly packaging?! so pretty…} if you're considering changing to all new skincare; of course, if you're just looking for one or two things to add to your current routine, i think you'll find them beneficial as well!

skincare gem: eraclea Pure Hydration Serum/Zinc

happy wednesday, beauties…

it's thanksgiving tomorrow…wow! where did this year go?! {a question i ask every year, haha}

in any case, i'm definitely loving it…this is the time of year that makes me so, so, so happy! cold, crisp morning walks with my dog following my daily workouts {i'm still in love with practicing yoga,  barre3, Ellen Barrett, Jessica Smith and core fusion} bring so much positivity to my day. i'm always thankful for that...

and my family...hot mugs of tea…new beauty goodies…leg warmers…scarves…hats

you get the idea :)

what else am i thankful for?

Pure Hydration Serum/Zinc from eraclea skincare.

it's amazing.

as it so happens, my skin has become bit drier over the past year {i blame stress and ongoing health issues}, so using this daily over the past several weeks has been perfect ~ it was created with these issues in mind! i do still consider myself an oily skin type, and every skin type needs hydrating products {not necessarily to be confused with moisturizing}, so with eraclea Pure Hydration serum i have really noticed those pesky little dry areas on my face are more smooth and supple looking.

this moisture-intensive serum is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory thanks to zinc which helps promote healing while reducing redness. the serum's hydration rejuvenates and replenishes the skin with the brand's HylaSponge®System, a hyaluronic acid complex, which is said to be the reason it leaves skin feeling fresh, smooth and hydrated {and no greasy residue}.

my skin really has responded positively to this lovely product. along with it, i was sent other products in the range to try, but Pure Hydration has given me the most visible and positive results, i had to tell you about it first!

i will definitely purchase this, though i still have product left. i'm pretty sure that i'll be sad when it's gone, but to be honest {full disclosure here} since i have other products to use and test out for you, i'll most likely have put it off…

maybe someone will put a bottle in my stocking… :)

beauty review: Murad Pore Reform

since receiving some products from the new Murad Pore Reform line {Daily Cleansing Foam, Balancing Moisturizer and Blackhead & Pore Clearing Duo}, i have been beyond excited. after using them for a few days, i grew more anxious to share with you my experience, but i know it takes at least a few weeks to really give skincare products time to show what they are supposed to do, so...i had to be patient and wait...

until now!

so, beauties, as i type this i'm hoping you've heard of this new range, and maybe have tried it out for yourself {maybe?}. i figure this since most of us are obsessed with keeping the appearance of pores as small as possible, right? {*wink*}. in any case, you should definitely have these goodies on your radar...

"pore size is determined by genes and, aside from very invasive treatments which do not always work, the actual size of a person's pores cannot be changed. that said, we can minimize the appearance of pores with products that keep pores clean and healthy." ~ Dr. Howard Murad, M.D, FAAD, founder of Murad, Inc and the Inclusive Health® movement.

Pore Reform is a complete line of skin care for oily or combination skin. the collection of products work together to create healthier, clearer skin. after a few weeks of consistent use, i've experienced less shine and my blackheads are minimal.

thanks to detoxing ingredients {AHAs and witch hazel} and its Energizing Pomegranate Complex, Pore Reform Cleansing Foam aids in treating problem skin, without stripping it of essential oils. i love that it cleanses thoroughly but, unlike may foaming cleansers, my skin is treated well ~ without leaving it feeling tight or dried out.

Pore Clearing Duo is a 2-step treatment that i absolutely love! the first step is a thick paste that helps detox skin and reduce blackheads with exfoliating volcanic mineral clay and shikakai extract {left on for up to 10 minutes, it really helps draws out dirt and excess oil, purifying pores}; step 2 is a silky formula infused with Murad's Oxidation Reversal Complex {targets oil production and the build-up of dirt, a leading cause of blackheads} and pomegranate seed oil {acts as an astringent, tightening pores and refining complexion}.

to hydrate and balance skin after cleansing, a moisturizer is essential. one with spf is even better! Balancing Moisture Cream {with broad spectrum spf 15} is the perfect, hydrating finish. it contains  antioxidant vitamins a, c and e to fight against skin-aging free radicals. the light textured formula also beautifully keeps shine under control thanks to balancing ingredients like lactic acid.

as i mentioned, i've been using both the cleansing foam and balancing moisture cream daily along with the clearing duo {which i've been using twice a week} for the past few weeks, and my skin looks and feels smoother and clearer. i love that the duo has really helped clear up and keep those pesky blackheads {like around my nose, blech} away. i've also been letting my daughter {she's 13 now!!} use it to exfoliate {an important step for keeping skin clear} ~ she's also a fan!

the Pore Reform collection also includes a T-Zone Pore Refining Serum to clear pores, normalize oil-production and keep skin clear. i haven't tried it, so i can't tell you how it works.

want to learn more about skin and how to keep it looking its best? the Murad blog highlights many issues you may have and is worth a visit! for more info about Pore Reform and other products created by Dr. Murad and his team, visit murad.com.

Hair Therapy: BE Beverly Hills Inspired Shine & Repair Serum with Argan Oil

BE Beverly Hills recently launched their flagship product, Inspired Shine & Repair Serum, the first in a line of luxury haircare products with argan oil. since i'm always game to try a new hair product that promises to keep or improve my hair's look, i was thrilled when the company offered to send me a bottle to try.

once it arrived, i was excited to try it right away. i was happy to discover that the Inspired serum wasn't greasy at all and left my hair looking very shiny. this was thanks to the star ingredient, organic argan oil, which is high in vitamin E, omega-6 fatty acids and has antioxidant effects on the hair. this includes fighting aging (yes, hair ages too), reducing frizz and keeping fly-aways at bay, all while increasing shine and vibrancy (hello, multi-tasker!). other all-natural ingredients are in this serum (including avocado and jojoba oils) to help renew, rehydrate, repair and protect hair.

i have to stress that this serum goes beyond just adding added shine to hair. it also lightly conditions and protects hair from the damaging effects of heat styling. i love that i can run this through my tresses any time of day, wet or dry, and i'm left with hair that looks and feels great. plus, the light scent of lavender is fabulous-- soothing and invigorating at the same time.

Hard Night Good Morning Facial Cocktail Serum

Hard Night Good Morning Facial Cocktail Serum gives skin what it needs to look fresh and well-rested, even if you're not. D'Andra Simmons created the entire HNGM line especially for getting and keeping your skin rejuvenated and hydrated while treating any damage caused by stress, fatigue or age.

HNGM Facial Cocktail Serum, one of the most popular products, works by stimulating and smoothing the skin with exclusive, high-tech ingredients along with those found in nature like aloe vera (the most prominent ingredient), antioxidant-rich rooibos extract and acai, as well as hydrating, moisture-binding hyaluronic acid. it smells amazing and is smooth and light in texture.

after using this only a few times, i can tell you this product is the real deal! it made my skin feel and look amazing-- it really did make me look well-rested even before my head hit the pillow. and on nights i didn't use it before bed, i applied it in the morning and could see the difference after a few minutes-- tired skin doesn't stand a chance if you use this!

if you are looking to purchase gifts, now is the perfect time-- HNGM is offering 20% off their entire line! they also have a great kit called The Whole Kit and Kaboodle that comes with The Facial Cocktail Serum as well as Eye Cream, AM Cleanser, PM Oil Cleanser Oil/Makeup Remover, Detox Toner, Daytime Moisturizer with SPF 20, Nighttime Moisturizer and the Detox Mineral Masque-- you can treat yourself or break it up to give as gifts!

available now: Make Up For Ever HD Elixir

the digital switch happens tomorrow-- are you ready? Make Up For Ever wants you to be with their new HD Elixer. this new beauty serum was created to hydrate like no other, making the surface of the skin makeup-ready, and thus camera-ready once all makeup is applied.

"everyone wants to look natural and have beautiful, firm skin," says creator and artistic director Dany Sanz. "i designed this product with the everyday woman in mind who has normal imperfections. if it's good for HD camera then it's good for everyday light!"

in a unique, non-oily, non-sticky, light-weight gel, HD Elixer is instantly absorbed by the skin and can be applied to entire face or to dehydrated problem areas such as the eye orbital area. key ingredients include d-panthenol and glycerin for hydration, dermican for firmness and tonicity, argatensyl for rapid tightening and fucogel for combating environmental factors like pollution. clinical tests reveal that the product increases skin moisture 520% after just 15 minutes, and continues to hydrate for up to six hours.

HD Elixer is applied after cleansing, and once the formula is fully absorbed, then apply your primer, foundation, etc.

"a lot of things around us are changing...technology is changing," said Sanz. "and we have to go with the [new] rules. it's not just the [makeup] brush!"

review: Rx for Brown Skin Absolute Radiance Intensive Exfoliating Serum

an even skintone is desired by all women, and Rx for Brown Skin has a fabulous serum that can help achieve it. Absolute Radiance Intensive Exfoliating Serum works to not only even out the skin, but the exfoliation that come from the glycolic and lactic acids also help to keep my skin clear. if you're prone to breakouts, this is definitely something you will appreciate.

when i apply this silky serum with a cotton pad its light texture glides so smoothly over my skin, never stings (even over a blemish) and absorbs quickly. using this 2-3 times a week has helped me see a clearer, brighter complexion since i started using it a little over a month ago. i love that this doesn't overdry my skin and little really goes a long way.

if you are ever at a Sephora store, be sure to ask for a sample of this little skincare wonder to try for yourself! you can also find it online at sephora.com

green beauty: Sustainable Youth Revitalizing Serum

when it comes to skincare products, serums are great because they are more concentrated and really get into skin's deeper layers. my new favorite? Sustainable Youth Revitalizing Serum. this weightless facial treatment contains an immune-stimulating, patent-pending blend called Alasta that absorbs quickly and has really made my skin look amazing.

this serum gave my skin a fabulous vibrancy that even i was surprised to see. as you know, i test out many products, and i've been pretty happy with the way my skin was looking, but after using this for the last four weeks, this has proven that there's always room for improvement- ha!

Bliss Peeling Groovy

Bliss Spa's Peeling Groovy, formally known as Sleeping Peel Serum, is a gentle exfoliation gel formulated to be a triple threat against aging.

while it works to perfect skin's texture, it lightens dark spots (from sun, breakouts or other complexion-related mishaps) and lessens the look of lines and large pores. Peeling Groovy also contains moisture-magnetizing AAE's (amino acid exfoliators) instead of irritating AHAs, so it's great even for those with super sensitive skin (trust me, it doesn't sting or irritate in the least). gentle enough to use day and night, this "for all skin types" serum has changed the apearance of skin for thousands of people, and i'm on my way to becoming one of them.

i started using this about a week ago, but i wanted to share a little bit about it now. so i'll be back with my final judgements in a few weeks. stay tuned!

PCA Skincare

there are so many lines of products out there, but PCA SKIN is one brand that i came to know of from my days in beauty school. i had the opportunity to experience some of their products recently, and i have to say i really enjoyed them!

PCA SKIN’s medical grade products incorporate the latest in medically and scientifically researched ingredients to nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate skin, delivering optimal results. free of color additives, synthetic fragrances, harsh alcohols, comedogenic oils and other known sensitizers, they are designed to deliver results without irritation and are especially effective for helping to treat such varied skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, rosacea and fine lines and wrinkles. PCA SKIN daily care products are available only through physicians and licensed medical professionals.

pHaze 1 Facial Wash works well at removing makeup and dirt. formulated to be best for more normal skin types, i found that after using this, my skin never felt tight, only clean and fresh. lactic and citric acids worked to gently exfoliate and give my skin a new glow.

the pHaze 35 Acne Gel became a fast favorite. with 2% salicylic acid and 5% azelaic acid, i found it to work quickly when i had a blemish (be gone zits!)

pHaze 43 Hydrating Serum gave my skin a nice "drink" without being greasy or heavy. hyaluronic acid, sodium PCA and vitamin B-5 attract water moisture into the upper layers of the skin, improving appearance and elasticity.

pHaze 7 Protecting Hydrator SPF 25 felt light going on, which was nice because really, who want to fell like they have a heavy layer of sunscreen on their face?

pHaze 30 Perfecting Body Hydrator SPF 30 keeps skin on the body hydrated and protected. we all know keeping the skin on our faces protected is crucial in preventing sun damage, but the skin on our body also need protection everyday! this truly light formula made me forget that i was applying something with an spf.

stay tuned as i will be bringing you more from the PCA SKIN line! until then, be sure to check out their website, pcaskin.com
