Jennifer Lopez on the Cover of Elle Magazine

looking quite beautiful (motherhood agrees with her!), Jennifer Lopez covers the october issue of Elle magazine.

in the issue she discusses everything from her love of fashion and glamour, to becoming a mom ("all of a sudden," she says, "the world is very clear. ‘this is important, this is not, this is okay, this is not.’ that’s what the world comes down to.") to how she found out she was pregnant.

since Jennifer has become quite the style icon, the photo spread includes some fabulous shots of her with 9 of her favorite designers (and some of mine), including Micheal Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, the co-creator of Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Oscar de la Renta.

visit elle.com for all of the photos and an excerpt of her interview.

Jessica Simpson on the September cover of Elle Magazine

all of the big, fat fashion-laden magazines will soon be in our hands, and you may know the covers are a big deal. Elle decided to play it safe by putting Jessica Simpson on it's cover (more on that in a second).

backing up a bit, i have to say, i always look forward to the september issues of magazines (hubby always asks, "what's in there, a novel?"). they get me all pumped and excited for the seasons to change...

wait, i live in southern california, what seasons?

actually, i mean, i get excited for the weather to cool down a bit .

ok, enough rambling, the september issue of Elle has Jessica Simpson on it's cover, and unfortunately i have to say, yawn....

not that i don't think she was a good choice. when she was on the mag's march 2007 cover, it was a huge seller. when she appeared on the cover of the september 2004 issue, it became the biggest seller of the last seven years. she's an excellent choice.

so why the yawn?

well, her outfit is boring. for a september cover, i expect more fall fashion, less look-at-me-i'm-now-a-country-singer-so-i-wear-a-big-belt-buckle-on-my-jeans look, you know? don't get me wrong, her hair and makeup look fabulous, but maybe a shirtdress or even something she wears in the issue (like the Chloe dress in the pic, left) would have would have been a better choice. that's just my opinion.

i also have another issues with the cover, but it's a little obvious, and anyone with eyes can see the problem, so i won't even mention it...(smile)

anyway, Elle feels confident, and really i only care to see and read what's in the issue!

what do you think of the Elle cover featuring Jessica Simpson?

Mariah Carey on the cover of Elle Magazine

Mariah Carey is on the cover of Elle magazine's august cover looking the most amazing i think i have ever seen her. in the issue, she talks candidly about everything (her new marriage, her fabulous body, and he latest album). she has been through alot in years past, and i think sheer happiness has her all aglow.

so what is she wearing on the cover?

a viscose jersey dress from Versace at Bergdorf Goodman, NYC, with diamond hoop earrings from David Yurman, diamond link bracelets from Bulgari, a diamond cuff and diamond chain bracelet from Chopard, a diamond butterfly ring from Van Cleef & Arpels, and a sapphire butterfly pendant necklace from Temple St. Clair.

to get her makeup look, try Color Intrigue Eyeshadow Quad in Sueded Browns, Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara in Black, Color Intrique Cheekcolor in Pink Star, and Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick in Pink Pink Shimmer, all by Elizabeth Arden.

her album, E=MC2 is available now on itunes. read part of the article here, and be sure to pick up the issue for the entire article, on newstands now.

Mary-Kate Olsen on the cover of Elle Magazine

Mary-Kate Olsen graces the cover of july's issue of Elle. i love this girl, i have to say. she has really grown up to be such an icon, not only in the fashion world but in business as well.

for the cover look, Mary-Kate wears an amazing silk chiffon dress by Stella McCartney and belt from Azzedine Allaia, crystal , pearl and oxidized silver necklaces from Tom Binns, and a (huge!) diamond and tigereye pyramid ring from Kara Ross.

what intrigued me most was her hair and makeup. it definitely makes her look a little more mature and chic. hair stylist for the shoot, Harry Josh, described this look as being a little rock and roll, bohemian-chic. kind of like that bedhead, sexy kind of just-rolled-out-of-bed look. very far from the hollywood girl that she really is.

makeup artist Polly Osmond went for a smokey eye
with very dark black, some silvery greys, and lots of mascara (Precision Eye Definer in Noir-Black, Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Ebony, Les Quatre Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in Sparkling Satins and Inimitable Multi-Dimensional Mascara in Noir-Black, all Chanel), and a pale lip (Rouge Allure Satin Lip Colour in Luminous, and Glossimer Lipgloss in Glaze, also by Chanel).

find a fabulous interview with Mary-Kate as well as fabulous fashion and beauty features, including Christian Siriano's much-anticipated feature.

i was also excited to find out that fellow blogger Erika was quoted in the article, If I Should Dye, an amazing look at at-home haircolor!

create a lit-from-within glow

each month ELLE magazine publishes their "Top 5" must haves. i love highlighters for summer as they help to create such a beautiful appearance on the skin without having to use alot of makeup. check out the "Top 5" highlighters:

Origins Halo Effect-- this lightweight pearly potion, gentle enough even for sensitive skin, casts a subtle shine over skin to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative.

Benefit High Beam-- the celeb makeup artist's secret weapon creates beautiful illumination with just a hint of shimmer.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact-- sweep on cheeks just on top of the cheekbones, after blush, to give yourself the most flattering, natural look.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Elcat-- like a touch of magic, this take-anywhere pen adds a touch of light, banishes shadows and eliminates signs of fatigue.

Stila All Over Shimmer-- allows for added application control and will last longer than traditional powder or cream shimmers. use alone or mixed into your favorite foundation for an all-over glow.

choose any of these or find your own highlighter to create a sensational glow any time of year!
